This week, the House is considering the largest single non-security discretionary spending cut in American history. This historic legislation, H.R. 1, will cut spending by at least $100 billion over the next seven months.

These are not easy cuts, but it is time for Congress to make the same tough choices that every American has already had to make in their own households and businesses.

Our purpose is clear – we aim to restore certainty, first by reducing spending, so that entrepreneurs and small businesses will be empowered to grow the economy again.

I want to make sure that you know how important you and the entire YouCut community have been to this debate. When we first began the YouCut program, Washington was arguing over ways to spend more of your money – now, the debate is over how much should be cut.

You should also know that this legislation includes several ideas proposed and supported by the YouCut community. For example, it eliminates funding for new federal buildings, terminates funding for NPR, and prohibits those promotional stimulus road signs. In total, this legislation completely eliminates 150 federal programs.

Click here to visit the YouCut website to learn more about H.R. 1 and then take a moment to let your family and friends know more about this historic legislation.

This is only the beginning.

Regards,

Rep. Eric Cantor
Majority Leader

Spending the Future: President’s Deficit-Filled Budget Threatens Job Growth

Yesterday, President Obama sent Congress a $3.73 trillion budget that calls for more failed ‘stimulus’ spending and job-crushing tax hikes on families and small businesses.  The President’s budget destroys jobs by spending too much, taxing too much, and borrowing too much.

This week, House Republicans will move to create a better environment for job creation and economic growth.  We will go beyond our Pledge to America and cut at least $100 billion in discretionary spending over the next seven months.  And there will be more cuts to come.

Also in this week’s E-Bulletin you’ll find the times and locations for my weekly “Open Door” program, as well as the latest on the job-crushing impact of ObamaCare.  Please continue to keep me updated on the issues that concern you.

Sincerely,

John Boehner

Along with the YOUCUT program available to every American for input to U.S. House Representatives regarding spending cuts, is a similar program called “WASTEBOOK ON FACEBOOK” for Americans’ input to U.S. Senators. It was recently initiated by Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) and is actually a joint project with Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK).
Kirk has been fighting for MAJOR steps to cut waste such as reducing discretionary spending to 2008 levels & enacting the Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. He also wants to ensure the voice of the American people is heard on the Senate Floor though on other less-known but still outrageous items of wasteful spending.
As part of this process, he is highlighting some of the most ridiculous wasteful federal government expenditures on “Wastebook on Facebook” so that Americans can see them and vote on which ones they believe should be cut. If you are on Facebook, go to the site and take the time to VOTE EACH MONTH on ONE of THREE expenditures listed that YOU think is the most absurd waste of money. Once the votes are tallied and a winner determined, Senator Kirk will speak against that expenditure on the Floor of the Senate. (Although this month’s items are not some of the biggest expenditures in dollars (they range from about 1/2 M to 1M dollars), they are definitely some of the most bizarre places for the federal government to throw away taxpayer’s hard-earned money–and every such item that can be eliminated certainly should be in my mind–remember EVERY LITTLE STEP counts too in getting our country back on a fiscally responsible path! Go to: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Wastebook/168237253222475?sk=info and vote!
